All these years, and the internet still has the capacity to surprise us.

While it may be increasingly slopified and run by bots, there are still just about enough humans on there with something interesting or entertaining to contribute to the discourse that keeps us hooked and makes us think that this whole thing isn't so bad after all. This, this is what we came here for (unless we're the kind of annoying loser who enjoys AI fruit Love Island).

The fact is, there are still plenty of s***posters and meme makers who, for one reason or another, genuinely have something unique to say. Failing that, they are good enough at being relatable and engaging that they know how to keep our attention on the things that they create and maybe even inspire us to make our own contributions. The point of entry is still very accessible, perhaps more so than ever these days.

That being said, we are not necessarily going to look at a random selection of memes and posts because we want to feel inspired. They are here to amuse and distract us, plain and simple, and it is very likely that they have been succeeding in fulfilling that purpose for a very long time now. That is no mean feat, and the greatest thing is that all we have to do to show our appreciation is to keep on scrolling and consuming. We never know what topics they may broach next, and what angle they will come from. Even though we have been taught by memes to expect the unexpected, the surprise is still what makes us continue to want to engage with them.
